Wednesday marked the arrival of the first aircraft at Ibadan’s Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport since it was shut down in March 2025 to be upgraded to international standards.
To the delight of everyone nearby, the plane, an advanced member of the presidency flight, touched down at the airport at precisely 9:14 AM on Friday, September 26, 2025.
On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is anticipated in Ibadan to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The smooth landing demonstrates how prepared and capable the airport’s infrastructure is to manage well-known flights in a safe and effective manner.
This first trip since March 2025 sets a good example for future arrivals and departures, and the presidency flight is likely to follow.
Remember how Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the airport redevelopment in September 2024?
At the event, Makinde had stated that the project will link the state to the international market once it was finished.
“The airport upgrade is expected to enhance air travel operations and provide a reliable transportation network for both business and leisure travelers, positioning the state for economic growth and development,” the governor had added.
A fire engine and an updated VIP lounge were previously supplied by the Makinde administration at the airport.
A 500,000-liter facility for storing and dispensing aviation fuel was also erected.
