During Tuesday’s friendly encounter at Cairo International Stadium, the Nigerian Flying Eagles defeated Egypt’s Young Pharaohs 2-1 after a fierce battle.
A key component of both sides’ preparations for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations was the game.
For the Flying Eagles, the match got off to a good start as forward Kparobo Arierhi made a quick impression.
He took advantage of a perfectly weighted pass from Bidemi Amole in the tenth minute to open the scoring, showcasing his excellent positioning and technique.

In keeping with the Flying Eagles’ confidence after their recent victory in the WAFU B championship, Arierhi’s goal established a lively pace for the game.

The suspense in the game increased as it neared its conclusion. Nigeria took the lead again in the 83rd minute after Divine Oliseh was fouled in the box and Precious Benjamin was given a penalty.

Both their coaching staff and supporters were thrilled when Benjamin converted the spot-kick with accuracy and restored Nigeria’s advantage, demonstrating poise under duress.

Nigeria, who have won the Africa Under-20 title seven times, will not only feel more upbeat after this victory, but it also comes at a crucial moment as the team is traveling to Cairo less than 48 hours before to the game. After winning, the Flying Eagles turn their attention to the tournament, which begins on Sunday.

Nigeria will play Tunisia in their Group B opener on Thursday, followed by difficult matches against Morocco and Kenya.

With a focus on winning at home, hosts Egypt, who are in Group A, will begin their tournament against South Africa and then play Sierra Leone, Zambia, and Tanzania.
