Four people were killed in a deadly terrorist attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State.

Among the victims were a local watchman and three contractors working on-site.

A statement on Sunday by the NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, said that on Friday evening around 7:20pm, the attack left the facility with significant damage to its security infrastructure.

He, however, said no immigration officers were harmed during the attack.

The statement read, “The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors on-site at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State at about 19:20 hours on Friday, January 10, 2025.

“The attack led to the death of four persons, including a local watchman and three contractors. We also recorded substantial damages to our security facilities. No immigration officers were killed during the attack.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. We are actively working alongside our sister agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts and bring them to justice.

“The service remains resolute and undeterred in carrying on with its core mandate of border security in tandem with the goal of securing the nation.”

TheNigerian Online reported Saturday that the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the killing of four persons—a resident and three telecom contractors—by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of the state.
