Four more suspects arrested over attack on Soludo

THE state  police command  has announced the arrest of four more persons  in connection with the attack former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of the Anambra police command, Tockuwu Ikenga.

According to the statement the suspects were arrested yesterday and had confessed  to participating in the attack.

The statement read in part, “Police operatives attached to Anambra State Command today, 1st April, 2021, arrested four (4) additional suspects in connection with the recent attack and gruesome murder of three (3) policemen at Isuofia Civic Center in Aguata LGA of Anambra State,”

It added, “The suspects are: Mbah Victor ‘M’ aged 30 years, John Olisakwe ‘M’ aged 21 years, Chigozie Omeh ‘M’ aged 20 years, and Emmanuel Nnobi ‘M’ aged 28 years.

“The suspects confessed to have actively taken part in the attack and subsequent abduction of Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, who the Command is working assiduously to rescue.

“Consequently, efforts are still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices, unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring perpetrators to book.”

Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Kuryas, has urged residents  not to relent in supplying relevant information that will “assist the command to nip in the bud all forms of criminality in the state including similar ugly incidents”.

Soludo, of the All Progressive Grand Alliance is a frontline aspirant in the November 6 governorship poll in the state, was attacked two days ago by gunmen during a stakeholders’ meeting with the youth of Aguata Local Government Area.

There policemen attached to the former governor of the apex bank were killed during the attack.

While reacting to the development, Soludo, who said he would be to find out the attack was politically motivated, described the incident as  “15 minutes of gun battle”.
