Four men have been found guilty of murder and given the death by hanging sentences by the Jigawa State High Court, which is sitting in Ringim and is presided over by Justice Ahmad Abubakar.

Salahu Yau, Aminu Salmanu, Salmanu Shafi’u, and Yusuf Sale are the prisoners.

The men were charged with violating sections 100, 342, 97, and 221 of the Penal Code, Cap. 3, Law of Jigawa State, 2014, on four counts of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, unlawful assembly, and culpable homicide.

However, they entered a not-guilty plea to the accusations.

Through its attorney, Sabo Shehu, the prosecution called four witnesses, provided extrajudicial statements and a medical report as exhibits and established its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

In addition to two additional witnesses, the defendants gave testimony in their own defense.

Justice Abubakar delivered the verdict on Friday and found all of the defendants guilty of unlawful assembly and sentenced them to two years in prison or a N10,000 fine.

The judge found all of the defendants guilty of criminal conspiracy and sentenced them to three months in prison or a $1,000 fine.

For culpable homicide, he gave them a death-by-hanging sentence.

In the meantime, Ibrahim Isah, a primary school teacher, was given a life sentence by Justice Abubakar for raping a five-year-old student.

Isah was found accountable for rape, a crime punishable by Section 3 of the Jigawa State 2014 (Miscellaneous Amendment) Law’s Penal Code.

The child was allegedly lured into an empty classroom by the inmate, where she was sexually assaulted.
