on light of the state’s ongoing political crises, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday for declaring himself to be “001” on the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership record in his ward.
Speaking on Arise Television, Fayose made a comparison to Lagos State’s political system. He maintained that President Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos, holds the position of political leader and that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not.
According to Fayose, official position is not the only factor that determines political leadership in governments with established power blocs.
Regarding the Rivers issue, Fayose insisted that President Tinubu would not give up Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for Governor Fubara.
He proposed that claims of party hierarchy at the ward or state level would not determine the outcome of the power struggle in Rivers, but rather national political reality.
Rivers APC Responds
In response, Emeka Beke, the Rivers State APC Chairman, rejected Fayose’s comments as ignorant and unfounded in an interview with Vanguard.
Fayose cannot speak on matters pertaining to the state and its leadership because he is not a native of the state. As the governor of Rivers State, Fubara continues to be the APC’s 001 in the state, according to Beke.
“Fayose is not from Rivers State and he is not a member of the APC,” he continued. He doesn’t understand what we’re saying.
In response, Chizy Enyi, the Coordinator of the Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership, charged that Fayose was speaking in order to defend the interests of Wike, his supporter.
He advised Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti, to avoid becoming involved in Rivers State politics and instead focus on preserving his friendship with Wike.
“With all intents and purposes, Ayo Fayose cannot be correct,” he declared. As the governor of Rivers State, Fubara is the head of the state in all respects as well as the head of the political party to which he belongs.
“Fayose is unable to visit Rivers State and advise us on what to do and what not to do. He was the state’s leader when he was governor, but now that he is no longer in office, someone else is.
“He won’t be the leader if he isn’t the president, just like President Tinubu is in Nigeria. Thus, Fayose is merely considering the logical notion that he is speaking A and acting B. Ironically, Godfatherism is ineffective in Rivers State.
That hasn’t been used either. Wike cannot, then, be the originator of Godfatherism. You might play a crucial role in someone’s advancement. No one can be elected president or governor by himself. It needs to be a team effort. Because the election that brought or will bring the individual is a process rather than an event. Additionally, people take part in those procedures because they are processes.
“I advise him to focus on how Rivers State and Ekiti State will develop, rather than on who is or is not the leader. Knowing that we are all a part of Rivers State, I’m telling Fayose to keep up his friendship with Wike while letting peace reign there.
