Abuja – In a significant move towards resolving the political crisis in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara met on Thursday with the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, in Abuja.
Sources close to the matter confirmed that the meeting, held behind closed doors in Nigeria’s capital, was cordial and marked the first reconciliatory engagement between both leaders since their suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
Also in attendance were other members of the State Assembly, as both parties reportedly exchanged pleasantries, shared jokes, and expressed a willingness to engage constructively.
“The suspended Governor is determined to make peace. He has started the real engagement,” a source familiar with the development said.
According to reports, the meeting ended on a positive note, with all sides expressing commitment to dialogue and de-escalation. Insiders described the engagement as “fruitful,” hinting that further negotiations among aggrieved parties may follow in the coming days.
The meeting comes amid efforts by the federal government and political stakeholders to stabilize the governance structure in Rivers State, following weeks of unrest and leadership disputes.
Observers have welcomed the development as a hopeful sign that peace and collaboration may soon return to the state’s political landscape.
