Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has instructed Muslim clerics in the state to warn herdsmen against harassing community residents, murdering farmers, and destroying crops in the state.
Thursday at Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara issued this charge in response to a visit from the Muslim community’s leadership on the occasion of Sallah.

The governor’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi, disclosed in a statement that Fubara informed his guests that his administration was committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all state residents.
However, he stated that he could not work tirelessly to protect everyone if some of their members were destroying the enterprises and livelihoods of others.
Fubara stated, “The local government areas are complaining, so I anticipate results within a couple of weeks by reining in these individuals who engage in open grazing in Ikwerre, Etche, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, and portions of Emohua local government areas.
They should cease harassing the populace and eliminating them from their properties.
Fubara reassured them that he would maintain an open line of communication with the Muslim community, as they are essential constituents in governance and should be able to conduct their business and worship without interference.
In his address, Alhaji Nasir Uhor, the leader of the delegation and Vice President General of the Rivers State Council of Islamic Affairs, vowed that the Muslim community would not use religion to destabilise the state and pledged support for the administration of Fubara.
