Ganduje slashes March salaries of political office holders by 50 per cent

The Kano State government has slashed the salaries of political office holders in the state by 50 per cent for the month of March.

The state commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba made the disclosure in a statement yesterday.

According to Garba the decision became necessary following shortfall in the revenue accruing to the state from the federating account.

He said the decision affected the governor, deputy governor and all public office holders in the state as well as all commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants, among others.

Garba said that at the local government level, the salary slash affected the chairmen, vice-chairmen, elected councilors, supervisory councilors, advisers and secretaries of local governments.

The government extended the salary slash to political office holders in the state hours after apologising to civil servants in for taking such measure against them.

The state government, however, assured the workers that the cut will be temporary as the its decision is just a stop-gap measure to keep the state financially afloat.
