Kwara State Governorr, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has commiserated with the traders at Owode Market, Offa, whose shops were razed in the early hours of Tuesday.
The governor’s position was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye, on Tuesday.
The statement read, “Kwara State Governor, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, sends his heartfelt condolences to the people of Offa, especially the business community, on the unfortunate fire incident at the popular Owode market.
“The governor says the development was one tragedy too many, adding that a team from the state emergency management agency has since visited the market to take stock of the situation as well as deliver the government’s commiserations to the traders.”
He said the fire incident again highlighted the need for all stakeholders to be more proactive in preventing such outbreaks at home or in the marketplace.
While commending the fire service for their prompt response, AbdulRazaq directed the service to work more closely with marketers on modern fire prevention mechanisms and preparedness.
Recall that 50 shops with goods estimated at about N360 million were destroyed by fire at the market.
The fire incident was reported to have been caused by fire from cigarette, which was reportedly dropped carelessly by a smoker.
