Governor Alex Otti Increases NYSC Allowance in Abia from N4,000 to N50,000 Monthly

A comprehensive upward revision of monthly allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state has been approved by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, raising the payment from ₦4,000 to up to ₦50,000.

According to a statement sent by his Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha, on Friday, November 7, the approval was revealed.

According to Ukoha, the increase is the first significant change in 27 years and is in line with Governor Otti’s larger plan to boost youth empowerment and enhance Abia’s public sector capability.

All corps members serving in Abia will now earn a base monthly payment of ₦20,000, according to the announcement.

Together with this base salary:

An additional ₦10,000 will be paid to corps members stationed at state government facilities.
Members of the teaching and medical corps would get an extra ₦30,000, making their monthly allowance ₦50,000.
The announcement states, “All corps members serving in Abia State will now earn a base monthly allowance of ₦20,000 in addition to the Federal Government’s increased monthly NYSC allowance of ₦77,000.”

The discriminatory payments were implemented, it continued, “to motivate interested corps members, thereby bridging the human capacity gap created by decades of neglect and attrition in both sectors.”

According to Ukoha, the increase is a reflection of Otti’s dedication to workforce development and compliments the Federal Government’s new ₦77,000 allowance.

“This is the first significant change in 27 years, demonstrating Governor Otti’s dedication to Abia’s workforce development and youth empowerment,” he stated.

The CPS claims that the state government has continuously assisted corps members, pointing to several advancements at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bende Local Government Area. Despite being a federal facility, the statement emphasized a number of interventions within the NYSC camp.

These comprise:

Hostel and camp facility renovations
Upgrades to internal roadways
Putting in power infrastructure
Facilities that are necessary to improve camp operations
According to Ukoha, “the governor feels that every institution or infrastructure within Abia, whether federal or state-owned, deserves attention because it is Abians who benefit the most.”

Additionally, the CPS highlighted that Governor Otti recently expanded the Consolidated Health Salary Structure to local government employees, bringing their compensation into line with federal requirements.

He went on to say that the health and education sectors, which are referred to as “pillars of institutional capacity and human capital development,” presently get around 35% of the state’s budget.

According to Ukoha, the amendments are intended to encourage young professionals to contribute to Abia’s development while also making national service more fulfilling.

The statement continued, “Governor Otti’s most recent action sends a clear message: Abia State is serious about empowering youth, rewarding excellence, and building a future where service is truly valued.”

According to reports, Abia is currently among the states that give corps members the largest monthly stipends.

This news site remembers that Ahmadu Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, recently raised the corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000, demonstrating his administration’s dedication to their well-being.

“Our government is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of corps members. At the time, Fintiri stated, “This increase is consistent with our commitment to establish a welcoming and encouraging environment for you.”

However, in terms of corps members’ benefit packages, Abia’s new stipend puts the state close to the top of the national rankings.
