In the Imo State gubernatorial election held on Saturday, Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the election.
Sunday in Owerri saw the announcement of this by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
As the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti State and the State Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Abayomi Fasina said that the governor received 540,308 votes to defeat the opposition.
The INEC reports that Athan Achonu of the Labour Party received 64,081 votes, placing him third, and Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 71,503 votes, a distant second.
