As Muslims celebrated the end of Ramadan on Sunday, some state governors and leaders across the country delivered messages urging citizens to embrace unity, peace, and progress.
Their statements, delivered through various platforms, captured the spirit of the season, TheNigerian ONLINE reports.
Abiodun hails Ogun Muslims
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his statement, commended Muslims for their prayers and charitable acts during Ramadan.
He expressed hope that their efforts would yield positive outcomes for Nigeria.
“On behalf of myself and the Government of Ogun State, I celebrate all our Muslim brothers and sisters on this great day of Eid-el-Fitr.
“Eid offers us an opportunity to renew our bond of love with one another as a community, state and nation,” he said
Abiodun acknowledged current economic and security challenges but added, “There is no doubt that we shall witness the divine dividends of your prayers going forward.”
Fayemi advocates unity for national progress
Meanwhile, the immediate-past Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and shared humanity during the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
In a press statement signed by the head of the Fayemi Media Office, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described the occasion as a moment for reflection, gratitude, and commitment to building a just and equitable Nigeria.
“This joyous occasion provides an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and commitment to Islam’s values of peace, tolerance, and compassion,” Fayemi noted, emphasizing that the challenges confronting the nation require collective efforts and unity.
The former governor urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and leverage the country’s diversity as a strength, saying, “Regardless of our ethnic, religious, or political differences, we are first and foremost Nigerians. Our diversity is our greatest strength, and our unity is our most powerful weapon against adversity.”
Adeola advocates for peaceful coexistence
Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West, emphasized the importance of adhering to Ramadan’s spiritual lessons.
“Let us continue to renew our hope for a secure nation and a prosperous future for the citizenry under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
Adeola urged Muslims to sustain piety, fairness, and justice, adding, “Tolerance and peaceful coexistence should be a way of life for all of us.”
Yobe gov promises people-oriented programmes
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, in a statement, expressed gratitude for a peaceful Ramadan and assured citizens of his administration’s dedication to improving lives.
“We should continue to be our brother’s keepers, spread love, and make sacrifices to accommodate one another,” he said.
He also called for collaboration with security agencies, emphasizing, “We are all stakeholders responsible for ensuring peace and security.”
Ododo preaches compassion
Speaking at the Muhammad Buhari Square in Lokoja, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo encouraged Muslims to reflect on Ramadan’s lessons.
“My message to the people as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr is for them to continue to reflect on the lessons of compassion, peace, and progress,” Ododo said.
He also called for collective efforts in building a state everyone would be proud of.
Kebbi gov calls for prayers
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, called for consistent prayers for peace and security, noting that it was a “sure path” to addressing the nation’s challenges.
“As Muslims, we need to put into practice the lessons we have learned from this holy month by being kind to one another,” he stated.
He also emphasized tolerance and unity, adding, “We should extend hands of fellowship to the orphans, less privileged, downtrodden, and vulnerable members of society.”
Mutfwang stresses resilience
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, highlighted the importance of prayer and resilience in his goodwill message.
“Ramadan reminds us that true wealth is not in material possessions but in the compassion and love we extend to one another,” he said.
Mutfwang urged continued prayers for leaders, adding, “We must unite in purpose, speak with one voice, and embark on a progressive journey toward the Plateau of our dreams.”
Bauchi gov advocates tolerance
In Saudi Arabia, where he performed Umrah, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, urged Nigerians to prioritise tolerance and forgiveness.
“Eid is a time of spiritual renewal, gratitude, and forgiveness.
“Let us support the less privileged, promote unity, and strengthen bonds within our communities,” he wrote on Facebook.
Mohammed called on leaders to “create pathways for growth and development.”
Lawal urges cooperation in Zamfara
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, appealed for unity and collective effort to rebuild the state.
“The challenges before us are enormous and require collective effort and cooperation to be addressed,” he said.
Lawal also appreciated religious and community leaders for advancing harmony, urging continued prayers for peace and prosperity.
Gombe gov calls for moral integrity
As Muslims in Gombe State and across the nation join millions worldwide in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has called for unity, resilience, and a renewed commitment to building a society rooted in love, peace, and moral integrity.
In a goodwill message signed by Ismaila Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum, urged the Muslim faithful to uphold the spiritual values learned during Ramadan in their daily lives.
He emphasized that the lessons of compassion, self-discipline, and devotion should extend beyond the holy month, shaping a society that thrives on mutual respect and shared progress.
“The virtues of sacrifice, selflessness, love, and obedience to the principles of Islam that Eid-el-Fitr represents should inspire us to continue promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence in our society,” Yahaya said.
Kaduna senator calls for prayers to end insecurity, hardship
Also, Senator Lawal Usman has called for fervent prayers to end insecurity, economic hardship, and other challenges facing the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Usman, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District, underscored the power of prayer in overcoming national difficulties and urged the Muslim faithful to continue seeking divine intervention beyond the Ramadan period.
“On this auspicious occasion of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr, I urge the Muslim ummah to use this period to pray for an end to insecurity, hardship, and economic challenges in our various communities and the country as a whole,” he said.
