Gunmen Attack Kwara Police Station, Killing Officer and Four Others

Five people, including a police officer named Adejumo Wasiu, were killed in an attack on the Babanla community in Kwara State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Fear and dread were left in their path as the attackers assaulted the village in what locals described as an unexpected and deadly invasion.
In response, the attackers were quickly apprehended by a joint squad of Nigerian Army soldiers, police officers, Department of State Services (DSS) staff, and local vigilantes.
Many locals were compelled to flee their houses due to the violence, taking sanctuary in nearby settlements in order to avoid more attacks.

On Sunday, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the attack.

According to the statement, hundreds of armed criminals on motorbikes broke into the Babanla village in the Ifelodun local government area on August 8, 2025, stormed the divisional police headquarters, and conducted a market raid.

Five persons were killed by the attackers’ intermittent firing, including Adejumo Wasiu, a police officer. Police officers, Nigeria Army soldiers, vigilantes, and local hunters responded quickly and cooperatively to resist the onslaught, restore order, and launch a full-scale manhunt for the attackers.
According to the statement, Adekimi Ojo, the commissioner of police for Kwara State Command, and the director of the Department of State Services (DSS) for Kwara State Command visited Babanla on-site to assess the security situation.

They had a meeting with Babanla’s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Oba Yusuf Aliyu Alabi Arojojoye II.

“They had high-level talks to strengthen interagency and community-security cooperation and to consolidate peace.” To make sure that calm has been completely restored, the joint security delegation visited several important sites in the neighborhood, such as the market, the divisional police headquarters, and the surrounding districts.

The deployment of specialized tracking teams, ongoing intelligence collection, and prolonged armed patrols were all mandated by the commissioner of police. The DSS also promised ongoing intelligence assistance in order to capture all of the attackers. The command reaffirms its steadfast dedication to protecting people and property throughout Kwara State, working in tandem with sister security services. Residents are asked to maintain composure, be alert, and assist security forces by giving accurate information.
