Gunmen on Sunday, launched an attack on still another police command in Ebonyi state, killing one officer in the procedure.

Loveth Odah, the police spokesman, said the incident happened at Ugbuodo divisional headquarters at Ebonyi LGA of the state.

On May 6, some gunmen assaulted the Obiozara police station at Ohaozara LGA of the state.

Four days earlier, there was a comparable attack on Abaomege police station in Onicha LGA of this state.

In accordance with NAN, Odah said about 20 gunmen attacked the station around midnight on Sunday and shot the policemen on duty.

She said the policemen, however, repelled the attack and killed one of the attackers in the process.

“In 1200hrs of Sunday, hoodlums, numbering about 20 in a Mitsubishi L300 Bus, and also some other people in the world, arrived through the back fence and attacked one of our divisions at Ugbuodo Divisional Headquarters in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state,” she said.

“The Turks entered and immediately opened fire, shooting sporadically at policemen on duty but were quickly contested and repelled in a gun battle that ensued. One of the attackers was killed.

“His AK47 rifle, GSM Phone and Jackknife were recovered while others escaped with bullet wounds. However, one Mobile Police Personnel paid the supreme price.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi Command, Mr Aliyu Garba, has seen the division to get an online assessment of the Circumstance.

“He’s also ordered a manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums with a view to arresting them for prosecution.”

Recently, states in the southeast have witnessed a rise in attacks on police stations, officials and safety formations.
