Gunmen have stormed the Abubakar Abdulsalam Post-Graduate Hall at the University of Ibadan (UI), about a month after a female undergraduate hostel in the varsity was attacked.

According to TheCable, the hostel was attacked early Sunday with laptops, jewellery and other valuables taken by the assailants.

The bandits, about six of them, were said to have attacked the hostel wielding guns, machete and axes.

The online newspaper said it was told by a source that the gunmen did not stay long in the operation after the hostel occupants raised alarm.

The institution’s security was said to have responded swiftly to the attack.

“They started robbing from the first floor and robbed like two rooms on the second floor. They were like six in number. What actually woke me up was the doors that they were banging. It was so loud,” a source was quoted saying.

Two male students resident in a nearby male hostel were said to have been stabbed when they attempted to intervene.

The institution has not issued a statement on the incident.

Gunmen had on July 12 invaded UI’s female hostel, Obafemi Awolowo hall.

Two students were injured in that attack. The gunmen went away with cash, phones, laptops, and other valuables.
