Hakeem Baba-Ahmed: ‘I Was Supposed To Be Adviser To Tinubu But I Didn’t Do Anything’

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that he was unable to make a significant contribution in that role despite having a lot to offer in the shape of political advice, which was the reason for his appointment.
It was noted that Baba-Ahmed resigned in April 2025 after being appointed in 2023 to work as a Special Adviser on political matters in Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office.
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, Baba-Ahmed stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that he resigned because the Tinubu administration lacked the will to improve Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed stated that he could not carry on collaborating with a government that no longer has the people’s consent to effect change, especially when it comes to tackling poverty and insecurity in the North, which he said Tinubu has made worse.

He said he turned down Tinubu’s request for a private meeting because he would have told him things he might not want to hear, such as that he shouldn’t seek for a second term in 2027.

Instead of running for reelection himself, he advised Tinubu to endorse a younger, more dynamic member of his party to run for president in 2027.

When questioned whether he would seize the opportunity again, Baba-Ahmed insisted that while he had no regrets about working with the President, he would decline the opportunity to do so if it were presented to him.

“The way the Tinubu government is going—no,” he retorted. I did not perform any work. In the Vice President’s office, I was meant to advise the President on political things, but I never did.
