Historian Says Ladoja’s Reign as Olubadan Will Drive Ibadan’s Modernisation

On Wednesday, renowned historian Toyin Falola predicted that Ibadanland’s modernization will be facilitated by the rule of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate.

Cancel Mr. Falola made this statement during his speech at the inaugural Olubadan coronation lecture, which was held in Mr. Ladoja’s honor and had as its subject “Ibadan History: Issues in Tradition and Modernity.”

On Friday, Mr. Ladoja will be sworn in as Ibadanland’s 44th Olubadan.

As a former politician, statesman, and prosperous businessman, Mr. Ladoja’s personality would surely bring about progress and enhance the state’s overall economic situation, according to Mr. Falola.

“Even though he is not the governor, the people of Ibadan and the state have high expectations because he has the ability to make things possible,” he stated.

Mr. Falola urged Ibadan residents to embrace modernization by enhancing environmental hygiene and appropriate trash disposal.

He also suggested highlighting Ibadanland’s ancestors’ cultural legacy, noting that the city was linked to modernity and had given rise to prosperous politicians, businesswomen, and other professions.

The head of the coronation lecture committee, Amidu Sani, stated that the lecture’s objectives were to clarify misconceptions about Ibadanland’s indigenous population and to highlight the intellectual character of the region.

“The lecture was not an academic exercise, but rather a critical dialogue, a moment for introspection, and a source of guidance for the new Olubadan,” said Bayo Oyero, chairman of the coronation committee.

“Under Oba Rashidi Ladoja’s leadership, we hope that the lecture will not only educate but also help shape Ibadanland’s strategic direction,” he stated.
