The Federal Government has been given a 72-hour deadline by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria to arrest Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, a former Niger Delta agitator.
The group vowed to organise its members to participate in a nationwide protest across all 36 states of the federation if the Federal Government refused to detain Asari-Dokubu as it demanded.
In a statement released on Thursday, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, made the threat.
“Asari-Dokubo must be detained by the Department of State Services or any other pertinent security agency due to his alleged affiliation with the violent phenomenon known as “unknown gunmen” in the South-East,” the group argued.
“The Nigerian Government must immediately detain Asari Dokubo, or else the Federal Government will subtly order Igbo youths, Igbo lovers, and all organisations that support the well-being of the Igbo people to launch peaceful protests at the same time.

“HURIWA is giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 72 working hours to order Asari Dokubo’s arrest and investigation over his alleged connection to the violent phenomenon of unidentified gunmen in the South-East, or HURIWA will convene her members for a protest in Abuja the following week over it.
“Illegality must not be allowed to continue while the security agencies lie about their knowledge or purposefully do nothing. Arresting Asari-Dokubo is required. A banana republic is not Nigeria.
