The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has stated that the Nigerian people did not elect him to provide excuses but rather to work diligently to ensure that the country is lifted out of poverty and positioned for economic progress.
This remark was made by President Tinubu on Thursday, when he was hosting a 62-person delegation from Rivers State at the State House in Abuja. The statement was issued in President Tinubu’s name by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on his behalf.
The delegation, which included leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was led by Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Siminalayi Fubari, who is Wike’s successor. Other members of the delegation included leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During his talk to the delegation, Tinubu stated that he had made up his mind that Nigeria should not have anything to do with being connected with poverty, insecurity, or under-development. He gave the delegation the promise that under his leadership, the narrative would be “permanently and positively changed.”
“It is not God’s will for us to be in a position where we have to struggle financially. We will turn the tables on them! There must be a calm and tranquil enclave for us, hidden away somewhere in the midst of this tempest. He assured me that we would find it.
We are not a slothful people. Our resources are extensive. All that is required of us is to look out for one another and to be good neighbors to one another.
“I am not a President who will offer justifications. I will build prosperity for all Nigerians by laboring diligently and purposefully for our nation with the resolve and dedication necessary to see it through. We have no excuse to live in poverty! We shall not turn around, but rather charge headlong towards the future.
“It looks like we’re going to have to swim against the tide today. However, the waves will soon start to push us forward from the back. Our ancestors’ hopes and ambitions will be realized thanks to our efforts. I find motivation in the people of the nation that I now lead.”
“I am the leader of the country’s sales force as well as its captain. We have to buck the trend and find ways to realize our potential within a relatively short amount of time. “The expectations of our people in regard to us are quite high,” he stated.
