Ibadan North Bye-Election: Odidiomo Backs PDP’s Oyekunle Wholeheartedly

The lawmaker for the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency of Oyo state in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, also known as Odidiomo, has declared his full support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, also known as “Don,” ahead of the August 16 bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Tolu Mustapha, Olajide, the Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, characterized the PDP candidate as a dynamic and seasoned politician who can provide high-quality representation for the residents of Oyo State’s Ibadan North federal constituency.

While delivering campaign materials donated by the two-term PDP lawmaker in support of the by-election, Olajide spoke at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting and urged party members and constituency residents to support Oyekunle, emphasizing that continuity of purposeful representation must not be interrupted.

“Hon. Don is tried and trusted,” he stated. Prior to his most recent position as the executive governor of Oyo State’s deputy chief of staff, he served the people of Oyo State as a member of the House of Assembly. He is knowledgeable about the area, has an understanding of governance, and—above all—shares Governor Seyi Makinde’s aim for rapid development. We all have to help him.

According to the release, Olajide emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nearby federal seats and added that a win for Oyekunle will further bolster the state’s representation in the National Assembly and solidify the PDP’s hold over Ibadanland.

He claimed that Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), the late occupant of the seat, served with diligence before to his untimely death and should be replaced by a candidate who will continue to provide high-quality representation.

After Hon. Akinremi passed away in July 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled the by-election for August 16, 2025. Since then, the seat has remained unoccupied, and political parties are working harder to gain the strategically important constituency.
