Several people were killed in a stampede at a children’s carnival on Wednesday morning at Islamic High School, Basorun in Ibadan, according to confirmation from the Oyo State Government.

The majority of the victims were children, according to a statement released by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation.

“The government quickly assembled a rapid reaction team in the wake of the disaster.

He stated that the incident’s victims had been quickly sent to several hospitals in the city of Ibadan for medical care.
However, the Commissioner stated that the government was expecting a comprehensive investigation from the state’s Police Command in order to determine the precise number of casualties engaged in the regrettable occurrence.

The government was not involved in any of the planning, he continued.

Oyelade claimed that the state Ministry of Health had not been asked to supply any logistics to help the commercial funfair.

He went on to say that the government would do everything within its ability to support the incident’s victims “through this trying period.”

Parents who were worried about where their kids were, the Commissioner advised, should check the hospital facilities in Ibadan where the stampede casualties were transported.

In Basorun, the medical facilities are University College Hospital (UCH), Ring Road State Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital, Patnas Hospital, and Western Hospital.

While the State Government offered its sincere condolences to the families impacted by the tragedy, he continued, it also asked the public to maintain composure and cooperation.

Oyelade stated, “We are currently collecting pertinent information and setting up the required assistance for the victims.”
