IGP Egbetokun Commends Nigerian Police Officers for Exemplary Service in Somalia

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has applauded the outstanding service of Nigerian Formed Police Unit (FPU) officers deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The officers were hailed as “exemplary ambassadors” of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their professionalism, dedication, and discipline during their mission in Somalia.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday, it was revealed that 15 Nigerian police officers served from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025, and were redeployed to key administrative and command roles at the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu. These officers played a crucial role in ensuring seamless operations during a vital security transition period.

According to a commendation letter dated June 12, 2025, from the AUSSOM Police Commissioner, the Nigerian officers demonstrated remarkable adaptability, transitioning swiftly from Formed Police Unit duties to individual officer responsibilities, despite limited induction training. Their intelligence and discipline were instrumental in maintaining peace and stability.

Prominent among the redeployed officers were CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard. Their work earned praise from international stakeholders and AUSSOM leadership for upholding the mission’s objectives.
