On Monday, David Ubaha, 41, organized a lone protest in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, to voice his complaints about the dire economic circumstances in Nigeria.
A sign complaining that the situation has gotten so bad that most people can no longer handle it was seen tucked in the front and back of Ubaha’s shirt. Ubaha is a businessman from the state’s Itu Local Government Area.
In an interview with reporters who harassed him, Ubaha enumerated the problems facing Nigeria, including the naira’s depreciation, the country’s rampant insecurity, the unplanned removal of subsidies, and unchecked inflation.
He pushed President Bola Tinubu to invest in mechanized farming, diversify the economy, revive ailing industries, and begin production locally.
The people are the ones who have the ideas about how to fix this country, not just our leaders. The most tragic thing is that when the people offer these ideas, the leaders refuse to consider them.
“Therefore, as a true son of Ibiobio, I, David Ubaha, swear to myself that I will never stand by and watch as this nation is destroyed.
“I’ve been negatively impacted by the situation. Fuel and food prices have increased in the market. I don’t speak for myself alone when I say that what the society is going through bothers me,” he remarked.
