Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has kicked against the attack of some women in Kwara State who protested against insecurity in their communities.
MURIC in its reaction, called for the arrest and prosecution of those who attacked the women.
The group, in a statement signed by its Kwara State Chairman, Taofeek Jaji, commended the women for their courage.
Jaji in the statement also praised the state government for what he described as its prompt response in condemning the attack.
He, however, urged the government to sustain the momentum and the security agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
He said “These courageous women, exercising their constitutional rights to freedom of expression and association, sought the government’s urgent intervention in the scourge of kidnapping in their community.
“It is therefore utterly condemnable that their peaceful assembly was violently disrupted by hired thugs.
“We must, however, explicitly commend the Kwara State Government for its prompt and principled response in condemning these acts and distancing itself from the perpetrators”.
