It Is Too Early To Start 2027 Elections Campaign – Senate Minority Leader Slams APC

According to Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, it is premature to begin discussing the general election in 2027.
In an interview with Vanguard, he urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on their mandate and provide accurate reports on their actions for the different constituencies that elected them.
“I absolutely agree with you; discussing the 2027 election at this time is premature. We have only been in this present tenure for two years, as you mentioned. I believe that persons in positions of authority in Nigeria, in particular, ought to focus more on their duties and provide accurate reports of their actions to the different constituencies that elected them. “I think it’s like running against yourself to run for an office that you currently hold,” he remarked.

“Food-is-ready politicians” is how he described politicians who switch from the opposing parties to the ruling party.

There is no justification for lawmakers to defect from their party to the ruling APC, according to the senator from Benue State.

“As you mentioned, we’re only two years into the current term, and we have over two years left, and in politics, a day is a very long time for things to change,” he remarked. I concur that some politicians, who have historically been described as food-is-ready politicians, are switching from their parties to the dominant one. I believe that once you do that, you are not contributing to the advancement of democracy. For whatever reason, I fail to comprehend why people are switching from their parties to the ruling one. Sincerely, I believe that the majority of this movement is motivated by self-interest. Otherwise, you would concur with me that different political parties should campaign for different viewpoints in a multi-party system.

He emphasized that it is definitely not a good idea to switch to the ruling party only because “your party has some form of crisis now or the other.”

According to Moro, members of any political party should gather the required political will to put aside disagreements and move forward in the event of a crisis.

“Pulling in a single direction is pulling in the direction of a one-party state,” he stated. But some of us will keep fighting for Nigeria to become a multi-party democracy, God forbid.

“There isn’t a single political party in Nigeria right now that isn’t in crisis, both the opposition parties and the ruling party. I don’t want you to believe that you are unaware that even the ruling APC has been sued by certain individuals or groups at the state level, such as Benue, or at the federal level. There is nothing special about the opposition parties’ problem, in my opinion. You can always anticipate differences in viewpoints, ways of thinking, and ways of doing in human groups. However, that does not imply the demise of those groups.

“In this case, I believe that we would eventually reach some sort of consensus, some sort of agreement, to move forward in the interest of Nigeria,” he added. “Undoubtedly, in most instances, in party organizations, we disagree to agree.”
