Iyorchia emerges PDP Northern consensus candidate for national chairman

Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, a former Senate President has been announced as the consensus candidate of the Northern caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for National Chairman.

Ayu’s emergence followed hours of continuous meetings by PDP stakeholders of Northern extraction in Abuja in the past 72 hours.

He will be presented as the only candidate to the national convention slated for October 30th.

 

Recall that the main opposition party zoned the position to the north.

Another ex-Senate President, David Mark, former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Markafi and Ibrahim Shema, an ex-governor too were among the leading aspirants for the position.

Recall that Ayu was the consensus candidate from North Central.

This was confirmed by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.

“This stakeholders meeting of North Central PDP was in continuation of finding consensus candidates for the national chairmanship of our party,” he said on Tuesday.

“Looking for someone with the capacity, with the commitment, love and passion for our party, we met here for several hours.

“Among the five persons that were contesting, the leadership of our party from North Central unanimously agreed to sponsor former Senate President Ayu to be the national chairman of our party from the North Central.

“There was no voting, we all agreed that he is the right person for this job at this time.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday), the northern stakeholders of our party are going to meet. So, he will be presented to the northern caucus of the party. I think that by the grace of God they will also accept him:”.
