Jigawa Speaker Survives Horrific Road Accident

Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, barely survived an accident on Sunday involving his convoy on the Maigatari road.
When the incident happened, Dangyatin was en route to a state-sponsored political rally called “Gwamnati da Jama’a” (Government and the People).

The Nation reports that witnesses reported that one of the escort vehicles, a black Toyota Hilux carrying police officers, abruptly lost control and crashed, displacing the people inside.

Only a few meters from the scene of the collision, the Speaker’s automobile and the other cars in the convoy managed to stop, preventing more injuries.

Despite being unconscious when they were taken to Gumel General Hospital, the injured police officers were stabilized and brought back to life by medical professionals.

Aqeel Akilu, the Speaker’s personal assistant, confirmed the incident and stated that all of the cops had been released afterward.

There are no fatalities. After being released from the hospital, all of the police officers involved in the collision are now feeling better, Akilu said.

In the meantime, a gas tanker truck struck a commuter bus on the Owerri/Onitsha expressway in Imo State last Tuesday, killing 12 people—including four children—and injuring at least eight more.

In a statement, Imo State Police Command spokesman Henry Okoye confirmed the terrible event and said that the gas tanker, registered T 16716 LA and displaying the NUPENG inscription, was traveling against traffic when it collided with the bus.

The commuter bus was carrying Jehovah’s Witnesses from Anambra State to Agwa village in Imo State for a church service, Okoye said.

The catastrophe claimed the lives of eight people and four children, while eight others were injured to varied degrees. While the injured are being treated at Divine Hospital in Awo-Omamma, the deceased have been transported to Ogbaku Mortuary, according to Okoye.

Since then, the police have removed the debris and resumed traffic on the busy highway, working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency personnel, Okoye noted.

He also revealed that an inquiry has been started to ascertain the events leading up to the tanker driver’s risky maneuver against traffic.

As family members of the victims hurried to the scene, locals reported the tragedy produced pandemonium and anguish, according to Daily Trust. Some people were trapped in the wreckage before emergency personnel arrived, and witnesses described the collision as horrifying.
