“Jonathan Will Contest 2027 Election”: Jerry Gana Explains Why Ex-President Will Defeat Tinubu

Minna, Niger State – Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election and emerge victorious.

Speaking shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Gana confirmed that Jonathan would run on the platform of the PDP. He expressed confidence that Nigerians, disillusioned with the current administration, would vote overwhelmingly for Jonathan to return to Aso Rock.

Gana said Nigerians were yearning for Jonathan’s return after experiencing the leadership of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, Jonathan’s past record and his people-centered style of governance have endeared him once again to the electorate.

“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana stated.

He added: “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”

According to Gana, the PDP remains “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented,” with a long-standing tradition of allowing Nigerians to freely choose their leaders. He maintained that the party’s popularity stems from its people-centered programmes.

Meanwhile, Jonathan recently met with former Senate President David Mark, now a national leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fueling speculation of wider political consultations ahead of 2027. The meeting reportedly followed a strategic session held by ADC leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Political stakeholders in both the PDP and ADC have been intensifying moves to secure Jonathan’s candidacy against President Tinubu’s anticipated bid for re-election in 2027.
