June 12 Protest: Organisers Announce Nationwide Locations, Urge Tinubu’s Government to Be Accountable
A list of demonstration locations throughout Nigeria has been released by the Take It Back Movement in advance of June 12th, which is Democracy Day.
The organization reportedly urged Nigerians to take to the streets to express their disapproval of the country’s economic difficulties, lack of security, and what it claims is the degradation of human liberties under President Bola Tinubu’s rule.
Protests will take place in at least 20 areas around the country, including the North, South, East, and West, according to Juwon Sanyaolu, the movement’s National Coordinator, who spoke with Punch on Monday.
By 8:00 am, we shall meet at Eagle Square in Abuja. All four of our facilities in Lagos—Badagry, Maryland, Agbara, and Toll Gate—open before 7:00 am, he stated.
Gida Matasa in Niger State (8 am), Museum Ground in Benin City (9 am), and Cathedral Junction in Akure, Ondo State (8 am) are other sites.
Several locations in Delta State were mentioned by Sanyaolu, including:
Roundabout Amukpe in Sapele
Asaba’s Koka Junction and Summit Junction
Junction of Otovwodo in Ughelli
In Warri, the Effurun Roundabout, PTI Junction, and DSC Roundabout
Abraka Police Station Crossroads
Additional confirmed locations:
Mokola Roundabout, Oyo State, Ibadan, 8 a.m.
8 a.m. at Kasuwan Gamboru Flyover in Borno
Olaiya Junction in Osun State’s Osogbo
Adamawa’s Juppu Jam Road in Yola
Yobe’s Maiduguri Bypass Roundabout in Damaturu
Bauchi School of ACR, Bauchi (at 8 a.m., Yelwam Makaranta)
The protests, according to the group, are intended to reassert citizens’ rights and demand responsibility.
“June 12 is a day on which we are exercising our democratic rights. The safety and well-being of the people are the government’s top priorities, as the Constitution makes clear. Sanyaolu said, “Under Tinubu, that has failed.”
He asserted, using an Amnesty International report, that since Tinubu came to power, insecurity had killed over 10,000 Nigerians.

Over 40,000 people have been relocated in Benue State, while roughly 68,000 have been displaced in Plateau. “The government seems unconcerned with the suffering of Nigerians,” he remarked.
Additionally, the movement charged that the Tinubu administration was stifling free expression and stifling the voices of the opposition.
“This administration is attacking the public sphere. Opponents of the government are being stalked. Our goal is to increase awareness and counteract this trend,” he continued.
Security forces were given a harsh warning by Sanyaolu, who urged them to defend demonstrators rather than suppress them.
He continued by saying, “The Supreme Court upholds the freedom to protest, which is guaranteed by the Constitution. It is the police’s responsibility to keep demonstrators safe.
In order to combat poor governance, he urged Nigerians to “reclaim the soul of the country.”
