The Labour Party (LP) has called for the prompt deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable communities across Nigeria’s North Central region in response to the recent horrific killings in Benue State.
Nigeria cannot continue this pattern, the party said, calling the attacks “a new wave of senseless violence.”
According to reports, Senator Nenadi Usman, the chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, demanded in a statement issued on Monday that all of the criminals be promptly prosecuted and subject to a thorough inquiry, regardless of their affiliations or status.
In addition to the destruction of houses and livelihoods, Usman expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of more than 100 people, including women, children, displaced people, and security officers.
These were more than just numbers. Their lives ended tragically, and they were human.
“Children who were entitled to safety were killed. Mass graves held mothers who ought to have been caring for their families. “Fathers who attempted to protect their homes were mercilessly destroyed,” she claimed.
As a sign of the government’s failure to protect its citizens, the leader of the Labour Party lamented the ongoing violence, pointing to the burning of homes, assaults on security personnel, and continuous attacks on displaced people.
The carnage in Benue ought to shock everyone’s conscience.
It is a national disgrace rather than just a regional one. There is a concerning lack of accountability and leadership, as evidenced by the assailants’ audacity and the victims’ susceptibility,” Usman said.
In addition to military action, Usman promoted a coordinated humanitarian operation that includes housing, food supplies, medical assistance, and psychological support for those impacted.

She urged Nigerians to go beyond “routine condemnations” and demand concrete measures, highlighting the fact that inaction and silence only serve to embolden those who carry out violent crimes.
“As a mother, I join the families in their grief.
“We hear the cries of the widowed women, the orphaned children, and the devastated communities.” Your suffering is felt across the country, and we must not disregard your call for justice,” she continued.
The Labour Party’s dedication to promoting policies that put everyone’s safety and dignity first, especially those in rural and conflict-affected areas, was reiterated by her.
“Nigeria can’t keep doing this,” Usman bemoaned.
