Labour Party Presents 34-Member Interim Committee to INEC (Full List)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a formal list of 34 candidates for the Interim National Working Committee from the Labour Party (LP) leadership faction.

Senator Nenadi Usman, the interim national chairman, and Darlington Nwokocha, the interim national secretary, jointly signed an official statement dated November 27, 2025, confirming the submission.

The letter was addressed to the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and stamped “received” by the commission on Friday, November 28, 2025.

The Usman-led leadership based their action on the party’s constitution and a National Executive Council (NEC) resolution dated July 18, 2025, which they said gave the faction the authority to form an interim national leadership for the party, according to a comprehensive cover letter that was included with the submission.

She pleaded with INEC to acknowledge the names provided as the LP’s official leadership. “We are pleased to forward herewith the names and designations of the reconstituted members of the Interim National Leadership in accordance with the LP constitution and the statutory NEC resolutions of July 18, 2025 already forwarded to the commission in the party’s correspondence and acknowledged by the commission on July 21, 2025,” Usman stated.

The NEC gave her group the authority to “constitute the full body of the interim national leadership in accordance with Article 13 of the Labour Party constitution,” she continued.

But the action follows a separate NEC meeting that Julius Abure called on Thursday, which confirmed his position as National Chairman.

In accordance with Article 13 of the party’s constitution, the new list reminded INEC that its Interim National Leadership was established by “statutory NEC resolutions of Friday 18th July 2025.”

Usman urged INEC to recognize the provided names as the legitimate and genuine leadership of the Labour Party’s Interim National Working Committee.

In addition to Usman and Nwokocha, the 34-person list consists : Mohammed Misau, Deputy National Chairman (TUC); Mrs. Nike Oriola, Deputy National Chairman (Female); and Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Deputy National Chairman (NLC).

Eragbe Anselem, Sarah Bago, Hajia Aishat Madije, Hamisu San Turaki, Ife Salako, Chinelo Oforche, Eric Ifere, Edwin Bafteng, Gloria George-Omunu, Joseph Ndirang, Aminu Kanya, Prof. Austin Akubue, Mrs. Martina Umana, and Femi Kehinde are among the other members of the INWC.

The list was submitted just twenty-four hours after INEC officials and former vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed attended a new NEC meeting in Abuja organized by another faction of the party under the leadership of National Chairman Julius Abure.
