The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has come under fire from the Labour Party’s leadership for pressuring Abia State Governor Alex Otti to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio was said to have given Otti high marks for his work in Abia State’s growth.
He expressed his appreciation to Otti for paying tribute to the former deputy president in spite of their political differences during Saturday’s celebration of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s 70th birthday.
Nevertheless, he implied in a subtle way that Otti would be more well-known if he joined the APC.
“My governor, congratulations. Since you belong to the Labour Party, I am unable to stand here and commend you even though I have already begun to observe your efforts. You’re still working, then. You will hear what I have to say by the time you visit APC. You will hear my compliments about you. “I’ll celebrate you,” Akpabio said.
Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary for the LP, said in an interview with Punch on Sunday that the Abia governor remains loyal to the party and has no intention of switching alliances.
Politicians are permitted to court people. Many other parties have been attempting to court Governor Alex Otti in addition to the APC. Ifoh said, “But he is still in the Labour Party, and he has assured us that he is going nowhere.”
He also emphasized the successes of the LP and contrasted them with the alleged shortcomings of states run by the APC.

The fact that people are still courting him indicates that the LP philosophy he represents is one that should be emulated. While other APC states have failed miserably, our LP state is demonstrating a strong commitment to infrastructure, empowerment, and human development. Because of this, we think the Labour Party is the best option for Nigerians,” Obiorah continued.
