As the countdown to the July local government elections begins, Lagos chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have ramped up activities to secure victory at the grassroots level.
The APC’s Screening Appeal Committee, chaired by legal luminary Kazeem Adeniji (SAN), began reviewing petitions filed by disqualified chairmanship aspirants at the party’s state secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja. The move follows complaints from aspirants who were dropped during the initial screening process last week.
Meanwhile, the Lagos PDP launched its nomination process by distributing free nomination forms to chairmanship and councillorship aspirants in a bid to remove financial barriers for interested contenders. PDP leader and member of the Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, said the gesture was part of broader reforms aimed at encouraging inclusive participation.
Ahead of the APC’s primaries scheduled for Saturday, the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, led by Babatunde Ogala (SAN), has summoned a high-level stakeholders’ meeting for Wednesday. The meeting will involve key figures, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), 57 local government chairmen, the state’s three senators, federal and state lawmakers, and cleared aspirants.
According to a statement by Ogala and committee secretary Nurudeen Bamidele, the meeting will take place at the party’s Ikeja office at 10 a.m.
