The Lagos State Government is hopeful that the recently inaugurated Sustainable growth Goals Youth Club at Lagos State University would spur growth outside of universities.

The T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS Agenda of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, Abosede George, stated this at the club’s inauguration and induction of some university students.

At the ceremony, which was held at the school’s Ojo campus, George, who was the keynote speaker, highlighted the government’s intention to develop leaders who would carry the torch forward and build on the principles established by the Sanwo-Olu administration for a sustainable future.

The establishment of the Lagos State University SDGs Youth Club heralds a new era of active citizen participation and collaboration in advancing sustainable development both inside and outside of the university environment, according to George. “Given the urgency needed to increase action and intensify collective efforts towards the actualisation of the 2030 Agenda,” he said.

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Mathias Schmale, noted earlier in his goodwill message that the challenges faced by Nigeria were enormous and included multifaceted poverty, flooding problems, terrorism, and banditry. He advised that utilizing the potential of the youth was a quick way to overcome these challenges.
