‘2,619 people killed, 1,190 kidnapped between 2011 and 2019’ in Zamfara — official

The Zamfara State government has said over 2,619 people were killed, while 1,190 were kidnapped in the state by bandits between 2011 and 2019.

The State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, disclosed this in his office yesterday.

Dosara said, “From available records, over 2,619 people were killed between 2011 and 2019.

“This is in addition to the 1,190 people kidnapped by the bandits.

“The records also show that N970m was paid as ransom, while 1,4378 animals were rustled within the period.”

The commissioner further explained that over 100,000 people were displaced from their ancestral homes.

“However, Governor Bello Matawalle has put measures in place to control the situation. The peace and reconciliation process undertaken by the government has yielded positive result.”over 300 bags of maize.”

For close to a decade now Zamfara State, in the Northwest region, has become a hotbed of banditry, kidnapping and allied criminality.

Governor Matawalle has been in the vanguard of campaign for amnesty for bandits who have turned most of the thick forests in the state into their strongholds.
Despite his peace talks with bandits,

kidnappings and unprovoked attacks have continued unabated in the state.
