According to the Sunshine League of Professionals, the coroner’s inquest, which the Ondo State Government established to look into the death of former governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has the backing of many.
The group, led by its chairman, Dr. Bayo Akinrimisi, claimed in a statement that the government is acting in the public interest in a response to the editorial in “The Nation” titled “Let Akeredolu Rest in Peace.”
Those who have incorrectly indicated that the state government has a personal agenda against those associated with the late governor are regrettable, the association added.
The statement read: “We would like to reply to the editorial that was published by The Nation under the previously indicated title.
Even though we believe that everyone has the right to express their thoughts, we are disturbed and dissatisfied that a serious issue like the death of a sitting governor has been politicized and misrepresented in public debate.
Regarding multiple petitions for a coroner’s inquest into the death of former Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State recently released a statement that was merely an administrative and constitutional response to public concern.
It is unfortunate that some people have made untrue claims that the current governor or attorney general has a personal grudge against people who were close to the previous governor.
As Ondo State citizens, we are dedicated to making sure that our government behaves honorably.
The Ondo State Government, led by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, is responsible for maintaining transparency and the rule of law. In both words and deeds, we pay tribute to the late Arakunrin Akeredolu, whom we hold in the highest regard.
“A government chosen by the people, however, must not ignore legitimate requests from its inhabitants. Any responsible government has a duty to acknowledge and consider such demands, as well as a legal need.

Because of this, it is unjust and deceptive to minimize our real concerns to a political conflict or personal grudge.
“Calls for a coroner’s inquest are in the public interest and should be viewed with the gravity and objectivity they demand.
We anticipate that a coroner’s inquest will be held legally, openly, and with respect if the state government determines that the request is legitimate.
If the public request is not granted by the state government, the group says it will take the matter to court.
“An totally civil and legal procedure does not require any individual, organization, or media source to create needless fear or public worry.
Particularly in light of the death of a leader, the people of Ondo State deserve responsible, factual, and mature discourse. Rather of focusing on political diversion, our government ought to prioritize healing, progress, and unity.
The only option left to us is to pursue legal action to force the Ondo State Government to respond to our appeal if the current administration does not.
“To be clear, there is no reason to be afraid of the truth, and the search for clarity and truth will continue to be free from political influence.”
