Former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi has been accused by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, of fleeing to Ghana in order to escape the political unrest in the state.
During a Friday broadcast on Arise News, Olayinka asserted that after Amaechi left, Wike “faced fire” and held the fort in Rivers State.
He was responding to Amaechi’s statement on Wike as a youngster. Olayinka responded that he had lost to the “child” Amaechi was referring to in 2015, 2019, and 2023.

“Wike was in Rivers, leading the charge to bring Amaechi back as governor when he fled to Ghana and was hiding under his wife’s wrapper,” he added.

Amaechi was in Ghana when the Supreme Court ruled that he should take back his position as governor of Rivers State. He couldn’t handle the fire here, so someone traveled to Ghana to bring him back. Wike was the one. Wike remained to confront the flames. He claimed that although Wike requested to be the Commissioner of Finance, he was placed under his supervision as Chief of Staff. And I inquire: don’t governors oversee the commissioners of finance as well?

He was beaten in 2015, 2019, and 2023 by the same individual he referred to as a youngster. Tell me one political victory Amaechi has achieved since he and Wike split. List one election that Amaechi has won for me. Since then, he has failed to win any elections. He gave the PDP’s structure to Wike.

“How has this prevented the Minister from carrying out his responsibilities? Wike completed the 17 projects that Tinubu will commission between June 10 and July 3.

Olayinka added that the FCT Minister’s ability to carry out his responsibilities has not been hampered by the rekindled rivalry between Wike and Amaechi.

He revealed that Tinubu is expected to put various projects that were finished under Wike’s direction into service.

The President will personally commission ten of such projects. You do your work, but you also play politics. You can attest that the Minister’s operations have not been impacted by politics. Everyone can tell that Wike is doing his job,” he continued.
