Maiduguri Residents Identify Neutralized Boko Haram Commanders

Some residents of the north east have come out to identify persons suspected to be Boko Haram Commanders as known faces in their neighborhood that took to terrorism and rose through the rank to become close confidants of one of the most wanted terrorist leader, Abubakar Shekau.
The news of their death is coming on the heels of the recent order by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tuku Yusufu Buratai to Nigerian troops in the north east to arrest Shekau dead or alive within 40 days.
One of the residents, Chiroma Ibrahim of Peace FM Radio, Maiduguri while confirming the identity of one of the six Commanders who were killed recentlt by the milutary said, “The efforts of the Nigerian Army in neutralising the top terrorists leaders is quite commendable, I can see the face of Mallam Tahiru was very well known to me.”
He was referring to one of the six top Boko Haram commanders neutralised in the operation to include Abu Dujana, Man Tahiru, a Deputy to Boko Haram terrorist group Hisba leader, Man Chari, Malam Abdullahi Abu Sa’ad and Goni Bamanga.
He said the identity of the six Commanders were well known to them in the north east and the Chief of Army Staff order to capture Shekau is yielding the desired results.
Another resident and a member of the Civillian JTF, Goni Haruna who spoke to our correspondent said the military has depleted the top rank of the insurgents, a situation that has led to many terrorists surrendering in droves and many been neutralized by the Nigerian troops in the counter insurgency operations.
Haruna urged residents to always provide the security agencies with relevant information to flush out the remnants of the terrorist group still hiding within the civilian population.
Another resident who gave his name as Musa thanked the military for their sacrifices, saying with the arrest, and killing of the top commanders, he is optimistic that the terrorists foot soldiers are now demoralized and will soon surrender.
He said, “as for us, we are happy that peace has finally returned to Maiduguri. We ask the remaining terrorists to in their interest surrender or face the same fate as their colleagues in the hands of the gallant Nigerian Army.”
