Many feared dead as herdsmen attack Ebonyi community
Some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, this morning, invaded a village in Ngbo community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
It was gathered that many have allegedly lost their lives following the incident as houses were torched by the rampaging herdsmen in the area.
The attack was said to have affected Ebele village in Umuogodoakpa Community as some victims of the incident are presently taking shelter in the homes of some stakeholders.
As of the time of filing this report, no suspect had been arrested or paraded by the Ebonyi State Police Command in connection with the incident.
Almost a week ago the state government put modalities in place for the setting up of 1,000 vigilante groups across the state.
The decision was taken in the wake of the wave of destruction and killings that swept through four communities in Ishielu Local Government Area where over 25 innocent rural dwellers were massacred by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The recent attack came hours after the South-East Security Summit that was held in Owerri the Imo State Capital yesterday.
The outcome of the deliberation as contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, among others, was the setting of a security outfit codenamed ‘Ebube Agu’ and banning of open grazing.
Recall that herdsmen had attacked four communities in Ishielu Local Government Area where over 25 innocent rural dwellers were massacred in cold blood.
As at the time of filing this report, no suspect has been arrested or paraded by the Ebonyi State Police Command in connection with the killing.
