THE Nigerian Air Force has dismissed reports that one of its aircraft crashed in Kaduna.
The fighter jet was said to have left Yola, the Adamawa State capital, yesterday morning for an operation in Kaduna, where the supposed crash occurred.
However, the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Edward Gabkwet, in a terse statement, last night, said none of its aircraft left Yola for Kaduna State.
“No crash in Kaduna; no aircraft left Yola for Kaduna. I am making contact and awaiting information from other locations,” he said.
Twenty military officers lost their lives between February and May in three crashes involving Nigerian Air Force jets.
In February, seven NAF officers died onboard a Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft when the jet crashed in Abuja.
The jet en route Minna in Niger State crashed close to the runway of the Abuja airport after reporting engine failure.
The following month, Edward Gabkwet said an Alpha-Jet aircraft involved in the anti-terror war against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province lost radar contact in Borno State.
Two officers were on board the missing jet which was later declared crashed and the whereabouts of the two airmen were unknown to date.
More recently in May, newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others on board a NAF Beachcraft 350 aircraft crashed near the Kaduna International Airport.
