Special treatment and privileges similar to those given to Very Important Persons(VIP) during check-in and boarding at any airport in Nigeria will now be accorded military personnel henceforth.
This was disclosed by Senator Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, on Wednesday.
James Odaudu, spokesman of the ministry, who represented the minister during a visit by members of Defence Headquarters Committeee for Sensitisation Strategy on Public Appreciation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, gave the directive.
Sirika, therefore, gave a directive to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other agencies in the sector to immediately incorporate policies and activities that show appreciation of both the serving and retired military personnel in Nigeria as it is done in developed countries.
Sirika also directed that messages appreciating the sacrifices and achievements of the military should be included in flight announcements at intervals.
“In addition, in all our parastatals, there should be banners to appreciate the military and we will also have those banners in our airports to be located in strategic places where everybody can see,” he said.
Sirika also promised to make stickers with the permission of the military authorities, to appreciate the dedication and sacrifice of the armed forces to Nigeria.
