The head of the military’s high command has denied receiving a request to overthrow the democratic system of government that is in place in the country. They have stated that the military is committed to President Bola Tinubu.

On Friday, the Defence Headquarters expressed disapproval of comments that asked the Armed Forces to interfere in the democratic process of the country. These comments were made in response to charges of poor welfare among service members in all branches of the military.

On the other hand, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement on Sunday by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, stating that the military had never received the request to assume control of the administration in the country.

It read, “The Defence Headquarters is concerned about false and disturbing social media reports that have been twisted in such a way as to state that the Armed Forces of Nigeria received a request to effect a change of leadership in the country.” This was a reference to a report that stated the Nigerian military had been asked to bring about a leadership change.

“We want to take advantage of this opportunity to restate that the AFN has never received such a declaration and has never made one to anyone or any group at any point in time,” We have reason to assume that individuals who do not wish the nation well were the ones who made this declaration. It is undeniably the depraved imagination of a select few individuals who are dissatisfied with the development and prosperity of our beloved country.

“The AFN is very at ease with democracy and continues to maintain its loyalty to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Always willing and ready to protect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the armed forces are always prepared to do so.

The highest level of leadership in the armed forces has stated that security forces have begun searching for the individuals responsible for the report.

“We strongly warn individuals who are spreading such false information to stop doing so or they will be held accountable by the law. The military and a variety of other security organisations are actively searching for the individuals responsible for this impending catastrophe. The message continued by saying that “we must all join hands in order to strengthen our democracy.”
