Even if Governor Caleb Mutfwang defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to run for governor in the 2027 election, former Senate Minority Leader Senator Simon Mwadkwon thinks Plateau State will continue to be a PDP stronghold.
Mwadkwon, who served as the representative for Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly prior to his removal due to an Appeal Court ruling, stated that even if Mutfwang were to leave the PDP for the APC ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections, the APC would not pose a threat because the state would still be a PDP state.
Reiterating the governor’s prior denial of the defection rumors, the former senator made the audacious claim during a Thursday interview with a few media in Jos. He also denied the suggestion that Mutfwang is one of four PDP governors who are likely to join the ruling APC.
“Plateau is always a PDP state, and the people of the state know that their love for the PDP is unmatched, whether the governor stays in the party or not,” the former congressman stated.
He advised Gov. Mutfwang to stay in the PDP since it is the only party where his best interests would be represented, and he insisted that even if he chooses to leave the party and run on another platform, the PDP will find a qualified replacement for him and the party would win.
“I don’t think the Plateau State Governor has any interest in joining the APC because he has repeatedly stated in public that he has no intention of doing so. He has not backed down on this matter in spite of multiple appeals,” Mwadkwon continued.
