N39bn Tinubu ICC Renovation Is Nothing but a Scam – Deji Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, has called the ₦39 billion spent on renovating the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC) a scam.
In June, President Tinubu commissioned the ICC, which was refurbished by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The ICC, erected in 1991 by former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, was renovated for ₦39 billion and renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre.

During a recent news conference, Wike said that the ICC has generated up to ₦700 million since its reconstruction.

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, Adeyanju posted on 𝕏 about the ICC’s purported terrible status.

Adeyanju stated that he attended a birthday party at the facility and was disappointed with the condition of the area.

According to him, the air conditioners were not working, and he believes that even “₦5 billion was not put into place for repairs.”

He commented, “I went to the Seyi Vodi party yesterday at ICC and felt very awful for this country. The air conditioning didn’t operate, and I’m confident N5 billion was not spent on repairs. It held no more than N3 billion. What happened there can only be described as a swindle.”
