If the Super Eagles win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, they will get $7 million (N8.9 billion), according to reporterSports Extra.

After a thrilling match against South Africa at the Stade de la Paix in Bouke, where 120 minutes of play ended in a 1-1 draw, Nigeria advanced to the 34th AFCON final.

The Eagles, who will play the hosts on Sunday, are among the finalists and have already received $4 million.

Prior to the competition, Confederation of Africa Football President Dr. Patrice Motsepe announced a 40% increase in prize money, as Sports Extra previously reported.

The statement that was posted on the football governing body’s website on January 4 states that the winners of the competition will take home $7 million, which is $2 million more than the prize money awarded at the previous tournament in Cameroon.

The runners-up in the continent’s premier competition will now receive $4 million (N5 billion), the losing semi-finalists, DR Congo and South Africa, will each receive $2.5 million, and the four quarter-finalists will each receive $1.3 million.

In the last two years, Motsepe stated, “CAF has made significant progress in increasing the prize money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions.”

“We have increased the AFCON winner’s prize money to USD 7,000,000, a 40% increase over the previous AFCON prize money.”

“I am sure that a part of the prize money will help our Member Associations with their administrations, as well as help to develop football and benefit all football stakeholders,” he continued.
