A committee has been established by opposition legislators in the Nigerian Senate to mediate the conflict between suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to reports, Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro revealed this in an interview.
The senator from Benue called the sexual harassment controversy that is roiling the red chamber regrettable and preventable.
However, he declared that he is making every effort to restore harmony and understanding to the upper house of parliament.
“You have given us a name, the Senate House of Commotion,” Abba Moro told Vanguard. Though I would like to point out that the Senate situation is regrettable and preventable, it has occurred, and we are all currently working to lessen its effects. I promise that I am in the forefront of making sure that the Senate eventually experiences calm, serenity, and a certain amount of understanding.
According to Senator Moro, opposition MPs convened recently and established a committee to communicate with Akpabio and Natasha.
“Well, you wouldn’t take it if you were her,” he remarked. However, as I previously stated, the opposition is taking action to guarantee that eventually some degree of understanding will triumph. We had established a committee at our most recent meeting for certain opposition members to communicate with Senator Natasha and, of course, the Senate President. Even after the plenary, when she was suspended, we had decided that we should not give up and that we should keep trying to bring about harmony in the Senate.
“I don’t plan to delve into accusations that some people are claiming are founded or not,” Moro continued. The key point is that, as I mentioned earlier, the accusations are not new, and she has also filed a petition with the Senate, which the Senate claims violates certain Senate regulations.
“I’m not sure what she will do next, but once more, I think we’ll find a solution to these issues. I could have expressed my personal perspective here, but I believe that starting to voice my own views on this issue will be preempting the entire situation because I want to be a mediator and an arbiter. Therefore, I hold off on sharing my personal thoughts until after all of our attempts to work out our differences have ended.
