The National Assembly’s Clerk, Kamoru Ogunlana, has advocated for the country’s parliament to be digitalized for efficient operations.

At a three-day seminar hosted by the National Assembly in association with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC), Ogulana made this call on Friday, May 9.
According to him, the National Assembly’s use of digital technologies for legislative procedures needs to be deliberate.

He asserts that digitizing the system is now a pressing need in the legislative rather than an optional one.
“This retreat’s agenda includes not only addressing new issues but also investigating team-building techniques that efficiently utilize our human capital,” Ogunala stated.

He added that although legislative restrictions have delayed the adoption of digital technology in the legislature, Nigeria no longer has any justifications now that the Evidence Act of 1945 has been repealed.

“Failing to integrate digital technology exposes us to future shutdowns.” “That barrier is gone with the new Evidence Act 2004 in place, and there should be no excuse for delay.” Adopting the e-Parliament approach requires intentionality,” he continued.
