The results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for 2025 have been made public by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
The Council reports that 179,201 candidates enrolled for the junior secondary school exit exam, which was administered at various locations across the country and covered 12 subjects between May 12 and May 23.
Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, reportedly acknowledged in a statement released on Wednesday that the announcement came after the 2025 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which was held at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Sani pointed out that once internal and external education stakeholders validated the results, the Council completed all the necessary steps for their dissemination.
“The results were made public because the BECE Award Committee Meeting ended successfully,” Sani said.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who expressed satisfaction with the exam’s conduct and results.
She said, “We are happy with the open and honest process that resulted in the results being approved and made public.”

At the meeting, the committee—which included NECO administration and a few chosen secondary school principals from throughout Nigeria—also discussed exam logistics and performance patterns.
July 23 and 24 are the dates of the retest.
The date and schedule for the 2025 BECE re-sit test, which is intended for applicants who failed English Studies and Mathematics, have been authorized by the Award Committee.
The retest is planned for July 23 and 24, 2025.
Candidates, parents, and schools were asked by NECO to notice the dates and make appropriate preparations.
