At his Abuja office on Tuesday, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), presented official appointment letters to Ms. Usoro Akpabio, the Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), and other members of the recently appointed board.
SGF Akume commended the appointments and urged them to fulfill the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda for the South-South zone during the ceremonial event. He underlined that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s faith in their capacity to hasten change in the oil-rich region was evident in their appointments. Akume urged honesty, creativity, and hard work in carrying out their duty.

According to Ms. Akpabio’s statement, the Commission will give top priority to enhancing primary healthcare systems, modernizing educational facilities, and empowering women and the elderly through focused training programs. She reaffirmed the new board’s resolve to establish the South-South Commission as a model for regional development organizations nationwide.
With the presentation of letters of appointment to each member, the event signaled the official start of the board’s activities. The SSDC is now poised to usher in a new age of inclusive growth, sustainable development, and regional prosperity for the people of the South-South, with the support of the Federal Government and renewed vigor.
